OpenOffice and MYSQL Part II

Just a quick followup to my earlier post entitled "Moodle, Open Office and Professional Development."  As of this afternoon I now have a direct connection to the MYSQL database from OpenOffice.  I installed the JDBC driver into OpenOffice and created a new database with Base using the JDBC driver to connect to the Moodle MYSQL database.  In Base I took the queries that I had already created and copied and pasted them into the SQL Query builder and then saved them.  Then I went to OO.o Writer and opened it up and clicked on the "View data sources" option and "BANG!" there was my new connection to the Moodle database.  The new database included the queries that I had already created so now I just did the mail merges from there without any copy and paste from a separate MYSQL tool.  Connecting to a variety of database types with OpenOffice is actually quite simple and will continue to save me time on sending out customized emails to my staff.  "Gotta love it baby!"  Maybe I will do a post on the specifics of emailing with OpenOffice at some point in the near future.  If that interests you leave a comment on this post and I will take a look at it.
